New Years Traditions At Our Home

With the New Year in just a few days,I thought I would share what we do.  As our children are getting older it has become easier to keep them busy and happy.  My olders would be content with us letting them play video games the whole night.  We want some family fun!  Through the years we have found some great ideas to keep everyone happy and busy.

3. CARD GAMES
4. VIDEO GAMES
5. ASSORTED SNACKS
6. WATCH THE BALL DROP

These are just a few ideas that have worked for us over the years.  We have 7 children 3-15.  It is a wide range of ages to provide enjoyable fun.  My older boys are wanting to just play video games but we need to provide fun away from those. Our younger children always enjoy the other activities.

    1. COUNTDOWN BAGS

These are my favorite of all we do for New Years!  Here's how we do it. Beginning at 8 P.M. each child opens a paper bag with a small toy/games/activity inside.  Each hour until midnight they open a bag with different items in it.  The last bag is opened just before midnight and contains balloons and noise makers.  We usually purchase items at Dollar Tree for these bags.  Nothing fancy is required.  On the bags you write what times the children may open them up.  It helps the time go much quicker, trust me.

2. BOARD GAMES

I enjoy playing games with our children.  Some are more fun than others.  Just get out your favorites and have fun.

3.CARD GAMES

I'd rather play card games with our children these days.  They are getting older and "get" the games now.  Dutch Blitz is a family favorite. We were given Bulls & Cows and enjoy that one as well. Amazon has so many to look through and purchase.

4. VIDEO GAMES

My children would play all day everyday if allowed.  We let them play for a certain time and they truly enjoy it.  The Wii is a great choice.  Many family games to play together.

5. ASSORTED SNACKS

What is a New Year celebrating without proper snacks?  I lay our all sorts of delicious foods to snack on.  This year we are making guacamole and THM brownies. That is just 2 of many yummy snacks.  Make or buy what your family enjoy. Surprise them with something your don't often make or buy.  Make it a special memory.

6. WATCHING THE BALL DROP

This is a tradition we have always done.  We turn on the TV or you could use the Internet and countdown til midnight.  That is when our children have the noise makers and make a racket all they want for a few minutes.  They love it!

Whatever your  traditions are enjoy the time with your family!  As your children grow older it will be harder to get these family moments again.  I am thankful the Lord has given us these nights together for fun.
